There are a couple times of year when everyone around me seems to be getting sick and spreading their germs about, just waiting to infect me. Around the holidays is a major one and the other is spring time. I can usually fend off the germs by going crazy on hand sanitizer and vitamin C but this year I'm amping it up a bit with essential oils and this honey bomb from Green Kitchen Stories.
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2-4 tbsp freshly grated ginger
- 2 tsp ground turmeric (or fresh)
- zest of 1 lemon
- 2 pinches ground black pepper
Stir together all ingredients, taste and add more ginger or turmeric if needed. Mix a couple of teaspoons into a mug of hot water or tea and drink. Store leftovers in a glass container.
Why it works
Ginger has an antibiotic effect that can help digestion, detoxification, infections, inflammation, motion sickness, and nausea (hello ginger ale!). I love adding a bit of ginger to hot water with lemon in the winter months to sip on throughout the day, too. Turmeric on the other hand is a strong antioxidant used to support digestion, treat fevers, infections, and inflammation.
